HEALTH Insurance Nationals of EU countries can obtain medical treatment at reduced cost in France with the relevant documentation (Form E111 for Britons), although private medical insurance is still advised and is essential for all other visitors. Dental Services As for general medical treatment, nationals of EU countries can obtain dental treatment at reduced cost. Around 70 per cent of standard dentists' fees are refunded. Still, private medical insurance is advised for all. Sun Advice July and August (when most Parisians leave the city) are the sunniest (and hottest) months. If 'doing the sights' cover up or apply a sunscreen and take on plenty of fluids. To escape the sun altogether spend the day visiting a museum. Drugs Pharmacies - recognised by their green cross sign - possess highly qualified staff able to offer medical advice, provide first-aid and prescribe a wide range of drugs, though some are available by prescription (ordonnance) only. Safe Water It is quite safe to drink tap water in Paris and all over France, but never drink from a tap marked eau non potable (not drinking water). Many prefer the taste of mineral water which is fairly cheap and widely available in several brands. |
