Art Moderne de La Ville de Paris, Musée d'

( Highly Recommended )

The Palais de Tokyo housing the modern art collections was built for the 1937 World Exhibition; significantly, one of the main exhibits is a huge work called La Fée Electricité , painted by Raoul Dufy for the 'Light pavilion' at the Exhibition. The collection of paintings is particularly rich. One of the rooms is devoted to works by Matisse, including two versions of his famous La Danse. Other artists such as Braque, Picasso, Delaunay, Léger, Rouault, Utrillo and several abstract painters are well represented, as are most of the major artistic trends of the 20th century. Art deco furniture and objets d'art are displayed in a special room, while photography and textiles are given a prominent place in the museum.
