( Highly Recommended )

This splendid museum of medieval art, also known as the Musée de Cluny, is housed in a 15th-century Gothic mansion - one of the last remaining examples of medieval domestic architecture in Paris.
The building stands at the heart of the Quartier Latin, on the site of Gallo-Roman baths dating from the 3rd century AD. The ruins are surrounded by a public garden. Inside the main courtyard, the elegant stair tower and corner turrets are particularly noteworthy.
The museum illustrates all the arts and crafts of the medieval period, the most famous exhibit being a set of tapestries known as 'La Dame à la Licorne', made in a Brussels workshop at the end of the 15th century. There is also an exceptionally fine collection of sculptures, including the heads of the kings of Judaea which decorated the façade of Notre-Dame Cathedral and were knocked down during the Revolution.
