The Jeu de Paume, recently converted into a hotel, was built in the early 17th century as part of the development of the Ile Saint-Louis. It was the first one of its kind in Paris. The exclusive Hôtel Ritz has had many famous guests, including the Duke of Windsor and Ernest Hemingway. Country Hotels The hotels listed in this section have been selected as much for their picturesque, even outstanding setting and surroundings as for their high level of comfort. The price range is the same as that of Paris hotels but these country hotels offer much better value for money. Pavillon Henri IV The lovely brick building of the Pavillon Henri IV, surmounted by a dome, is all that remains, together with another pavilion, of the Château Neuf erected at the beginning of the 17th century and demolished in the 18th century after being neglected for too long. King Louis XIV was actually born within its walls on 5 September 1638. The pavilion was turned into a hotel in 1836 and has subsequently attracted many famous guests. |
