DRIVING

Speed limit on motorways (annual toll payable): 110kph.

Minimum limit: 50kph

Speed limit on country roads: 90kph (on level crossings: 30kph)

Speed limit on urban roads: 60kph

Seat Belts: Must be worn in front seats - and rear seats where fitted. Under 12s may not travel in the front seat.

Don't drink any alcohol if driving. The allowed blood/alcohol level is zero and penalties are severe.

Petrol (benzín) is sold in leaded form as special (91 octane) and super (96 octane). Unleaded petrol comes as natural (95 octane) and super plus (98 octane), the latter is available only at larger petrol stations. Diesel (nafta) is also available. In Prague, filling stations are few and far between, but some open 24 hours.

ÚAMK, the Czech automobile club, operates a 24-hour nationwide breakdown service on the same terms as your own motoring club at home (non-members pay in full), Phone: 0123 (123 in Prague) or 154 from mobile phones. On motorways use emergency phones (every 2km) to summon help.
