The official language of the Czech Republic is Czech (Český) - a highly complex western Slav tongue. Czech sounds and looks daunting, but apart from a few special letters, each letter and syllable is pronounced as it is written - the key is always to stress the first syllable of a word. Any attempt to speak Czech will be heartily appreciated although English is spoken by many involved in the tourist trade. Below are a few Czech words that may be helpful.
