This hillside villa, the home of the soprano, Josefina Dušek, and her composer husband František, was where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart stayed on his visits to Prague in 1787 and 1791. Although the house was badly damaged by fire in 1873, the rooms Mozart occupied have survived and now contain a small exhibition on the composer and his happy relationship with the Bohemian capital. The most highly valued items, apart from the manuscripts, are his harpsichord and a lock of his hair. But his presence can best be felt in the lovely garden. It was here, on the night of 28 October 1787, that Mozart dashed off the sublime overture to his opera, Don Giovanni, just one night before the première was given in the Estates Theatre.
