This interesting museum charts the history of Prague, and includes exhibits which range from the earliest times to the 20th century. Among the various household items on display are slippers, combs and a 14th-century wash-tub, as well as pottery and coins. The medieval craft guilds are represented in displays of tools, signs and seals, and by some fine examples of their workmanship, including a mural painting of 1406, originally executed for the House at the Golden Angel in Old Town Square. Weapons, model soldiers and cannons and the lock of the original Bethlehem Chapel door are used to illustrate the Hussite period and there is an impressive collection of statuary, notably a wooden pietà from the Týn Church and a stone Madonna which used to decorate the Oriel Chapel in the Old Town Hall. Another attraction is Antonín Langweil's ambitious model of 19th-century Prague, which can be illuminated to show different areas of the city.
