The 65m-high dam across the Vltava River took four years to build and was completed in 1954. The reservoir is a favourite with Prague residents, who flock to the holiday bungalows dotted along its wooded shores to enjoy a weekend's fishing, swimming, boating and water sports. Slapy can be reached directly on route 102, south of Prague, or at a more leisurely pace, by boat (the trip up the Vltava takes four hours).
