ELECTRICITY
Switzerland has a 220-volt power supply. Electrical sockets take plugs with two round pins; American appliances will need
a plug adapter and will require a transformer if they do not have a dual-voltage facility.
RESTROOMS
Most toilets (Toiletten) are clean and well maintained. They are indicated by a variety of signs, such as “WC” or Toiletten.
Women's restrooms are designated Damen, Frauen, Femmes, Dames, Signore or Donne; men's as Herren, Männer, Hommes, Messieurs,
Signori or Uomini.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Check first before taking photographs in churches and museums; it may be forbidden or you may have to ask for permission.
Film and camera batteries are readily available around tourist areas, but prices may be high. Photography is prohibited in
some military areas, which includes some public footpaths, parks and forest areas. It is quite common to come across the Swiss
army when you are walking, hiking or mountain biking. Some footpaths are closed during maneuvers, and temporary barriers set
up by the army should be observed at all times.
