On the banks of the Ill river, at the west end of the historic center, cobbled streets are lined with lovely medieval and Renaissance timbered houses, dripping with colorful geraniums and shaded by ancient trees. Little France got its name in the 16th century, when sufferers of syphilis were isolated here, to keep them well away from “worthier” citizens.
