WHEN TRAVELING OUTSIDE YOUR LOCAL CLUB AREA. 1. Look in the white pages of the telephone book for a listing under "AAA" in the United States and "CAA" in Canada, since road service is dispatched by the local club in many Communities. 2. If there is no listing, have your membership cared handy and call Supernumber 1-800-AAA-HELP for the nearest road service facility. Hearing impaired/TDD-TTY users call: 1-800-955-4TDD. Supernumber is available in the U.S. and Canada 24 hours a day, for Emergency Road Service when traveling outside the area served by your home club. Report immediately to your insurance company every collision in which your vehicle is involved, even if the collision seems trivial. If your vehicle is bumped by another and you are not comfortable with the other driver's actions or the surrounding area, motion him or her to follow you to a more public place, a police station, or a fire station prior to taking these steps: STOP Turn off the ignition. Do not obstruct traffic if you can help it. (NOTE: In some jurisdictions vehicles should not be moved until th police arrive. In other jurisdictions, unless someone has been injured, cars should be moved form the roadway.) CONTROL THE COLLISION SCENE Post someone to warn approaching traffic. Place warning flares or reflective triangles several hundred feet in back and front of the crash site. Turn on the four-way flashers, and at night, leave on low-beam headlights. REMAIN AT THE SCENE Unless injuries force you to do otherwise, do not leave the rash scene until you have helped the injured and protected the scene. NOTIFY NEAREST PLICE OFFICER If you are involved in a collision that results in personal injury, death or property damage over a given amount (which varies by jurisdiction), call the local law enforcement agency. ASSIST THE INJURED If someone is seriously injured, call for medical assistance. make the injured comfortable, but do not move them. Do whatever is necessary to the extent that you are qualified to provide first aid. EXCHANGE INFORMATION Obtain the name, address and registration number from the driver and all passengers in other vehicles. COLLISIONS WITH UNATTENDED VEHICLES OR PROPERTY Try to identify and inform the owner. If the owner cannot be located, attach a written notice with the required information to the vehicle or property. Note the license number of the other vehicle. RECORD DETAILS Make notes to help you complete accident-report forms. Use a sketch to diagram the surrounding area and the location of the vehicles before and after the accident. IF YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT INVOLVED You have a morale responsibility to stop if you see an accident where assistance is needed. If you do need to stop, park your vehicle in a safe place away from the accident. Drive on if adequate assistance is available. If AAA/CAA is not able to provide service, obtain help from the nearest available service facility, pay for the service and obtain an itemized receipt. Submit the original receipt with all pertinent information to your club for reimbursement consideration when you return home. |
