Burton, the oldest settlement in the Western Reserve, was founded in 1798. The town retains its historic charm, being built around a typical New England village green, with school, church and several lovely 19th-century homes. The town is on the western edge of the fourth largest Amish community in the world, and horse-drawn buggies can be seen traveling around the square. The square is also home to the Burton Log Cabin , a working sugar house. It was built in 1931 and several additions were added through 1962. During the maple sugaring season, sap is collected from nearby trees and then boiled to make maple syrup. Maple candy is made year-round. The gift shop sells maple products made on-site.
