Part of the Laurel Highlands, Ligonier is sheltered by Laurel Mountain to the east and Chestnut Ridge to the west. It is a quiet, picturesque village with a turn-of-the-20th-century atmosphere. Steeped in history, the town was a key British defense post during the French and Indian War.
