Unlike his uncles Tecumseh and Prophet, the Shawnee chief Spemicalawwah, who also was known as Capt. James John Logan, fought for the United States in Indiana, western Ohio and southeastern Michigan during the War of 1812. He was killed in November 1812 in a clash with the British along the Maumee River. Logansport was named in his honor by Col. John B.
