The town takes its name from the Muscogee tribe of the Creek Nation who moved to Oklahoma in the 1830s. Muskogee also was the home of notable Oklahoma historians Grant and Carolyn Foreman, who wrote a number of books about the Five Civilized Tribes. The couple's residence, the Thomas-Foreman Historic Home at 1419 W. Okmulgee, contains their original furniture and is open for tours Fri.-Sat. 10-5, in summer; otherwise by request; phone (918) 686-6624. Learn More...
