In 1919, the Santa Fe Railway built a new line through the Texas Panhandle, bypassing the towns of Ochiltree, and Gray, Okla., eight miles to the north and south. Knowing their fortunes were tied to the railroad, residents of both towns loaded their belongings—and their buildings—onto wagons and relocated to Perryton.
