Pointe-à-Pitre is the commercial capital of Guadeloupe and seat of the sub-prefecture of Grande-Terre. About 40 miles (64 km) northeast of Basse-Terre, Pointe-à-Pitre is reached by either of two bridges from Basse-Terre Island.
