Catholic, Protestant and Latter-day Saints missionaries occupied much of central Idaho during the mid- and late 1800s in an attempt to convert the Native Americans. Spalding, now within the boundaries of the Nez Perce National Historical Park, is named for the Rev. Henry H. Spalding, who built a mission near the present town of Lapwai in 1836. Learn More...
