In Guajome County Park on the outskirts of Vista stands Rancho Guajome Adobe, 2210 N. Santa Fe Ave., a 7,000-square-foot adobe that is considered one of California's best examples of Spanish-Mexican hacienda architecture. Built in the 1850s on a Mexican land grant, the 22-room ranch house was constructed by Col. Cave Johnson Couts, whose wife received the land as a wedding gift. The property soon became a center for extravagant fiestas, attracting stage-coach travelers stopping between Los Angeles and San Diego. Today visitors may tour the house and property, which includes vineyards, stables, two courtyards, a chapel, a schoolroom and a Victorian garden; phone (760) 724-4082. Learn More...
