Known as the “crossing of the ways” in the mid- to late 19th century because of the intersection of several railroad lines, Waycross has maintained its railroad heritage. At Rice Yard, the largest classification facility in the country, freight cars are organized into trains to move shipments across the nation. Other industries in the area include lumber and related concerns, manufactured housing, tobacco and pecan farming, bee culture and the production of honey. The town is at the northern entrance to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Learn More...
