A small crossroads town, Addison is bounded on the west by sweeping plains that lead to Lake Champlain. At Chimney Point, 8 miles west, a steel bridge spans the lake to connect Vermont with New York. It is said that Samuel de Champlain stood at Chimney Point on July 30, 1609, and gave his name to the huge body of water that lay before him.
