DescriptionFounded in 1876 as a stop along the railroad route connecting Galveston and Richmond, Alvin was named for founder Alvin Morgan. It was here that Major League Baseball pitcher Nolan Ryan spent his childhood. The city survived despite hurricanes in 1900 and 1915 and a devastating fire in 1902.
