DescriptionIt was June 1850 when Lewis Ralston found gold in what is now known as Ralston Creek. His strike was just the beginning, however, as other miners would soon come to Colorado with hopes of finding wealth and fortune. Founded in 1870, 6 years before Colorado achieved statehood, Arvada was initially a trading hub for the surrounding agricultural region.
The town recalls its early days in its Historic Olde Town section, where some of the commercial and residential buildings date to the 19th century, and at Gold Strike Park, the site of the 1850 gold discovery, at the confluence of Ralston and Clear creeks.
