Located in the northeast corner of the Snake River Plain, Ashton was established in 1906 by the Oregon Short Line Railroad. The district is today the world's largest producer of seed potatoes and also grows wheat, barley, hay, peas and canola. Off to the southeast, the ragged profile of the Teton Range is visible on the horizon.
