DescriptionNamed for the superintendent of construction of the Milwaukee Road, Baker is near the middle of vast oil and gas fields. Until 1915 Baker was solely a grazing and farming town. Then, a driller in search of water struck a natural-gas pocket, setting fire to his well, which burned as a natural torch for 6 years. Baker is now a center for local petroleum and agricultural interests.
