DescriptionNamed after British surveyor Henry Wolsey Bayfield, the village on Lake Huron began as a port for shipping grain. After the coming of railroads the port no longer was needed, and the townsfolk turned to fishing for a way of life. A full-service marina is available for boaters.

Self-guiding toursA walking tour of the village's historic district features late 19th-century houses surrounded by large oak trees. Highlights of the houses include decorative woodwork, carved doors and buff-colored brickwork.
