DescriptionLocated at the head of Hood Canal's southern hook, Belfair sprang up in the 1880s as a supply center for area logging operations. Belfair State Park, 3 miles west at 3151 N.E. SR 300, has beach access along Hood Canal and interpretive displays about shellfish, water quality and the life cycle of salmon. You can see spawning salmon in Big Mission and Little Mission creeks during the fall; phone (360) 275-0668.
Tahuya State Forest, west of Belfair off SR 300, is a 23,100-acre “working forest.” Dozens of miles of multi-use trails and forest roads provide recreation opportunities for hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, motorcyclists, and ATV and four-wheel-drive vehicles.
