DescriptionSwiss architecture found throughout Berne reflects the influence of the Swiss Mennonites who settled in the region in 1852. More than 3,600 Amish operate farms in the area. Their horses and buggies can be seen at hitching posts in town on shopping days.
The 22-acre Swiss Heritage Village and Museum has 15 buildings that depict the lives of Berne's early Swiss settlers, including the oldest Mennonite church in Indiana. Docent-guided tours are available; phone (260) 589-8007.
