DescriptionIn central Mississippi, Bienville's 179,402 acres of pine and hardwood forest were once the depleted holdings of four large lumber companies. Bienville Pines Scenic Area, a mile south of the community of Forest on SR 501, features a nature trail in a stand of virgin pine. Shockaloe National Recreation Trail, 5 miles west of Forest on US 80, offers 23 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails. Other recreational activities possible within the forest include camping, fishing, hunting and swimming.
