DescriptionBlakely and surrounding Early County constitute one of the largest peanut-producing areas in the country. The Peanut Monument on the northeast corner of Courthouse Square was donated by citizens of the town and county.
Other sites in and near Blakely are reminders of the past. In the northwest corner of the square stands the last known Confederate flagpole, erected in 1861. Nine miles southwest, a covered bridge on Old River Road spans picturesque Coheelee Creek. Built in 1883, it is one of the few covered bridges in the South.
