Founded at the junction of the Miramichi and Taxis rivers, Boiestown was named after an American settler from New Hampshire. Thomas Boies ran a lumber mill, one of a half dozen that opened here to take advantage of abundant trees and water power. Boiestown is considered the geographical center of the province.
