The town of Bryan was named for Ohio Secretary of State John A. Bryan. A prominent landmark in the town square is the Romanesque Revival-style Williams County Courthouse . The courthouse was built in 1888 with stones weighing as much as 6 tons each. Stone cutters were brought from Scotland to create the building's exterior carvings.
