Bucksport was founded in the 1760s by Col. Jonathan Buck. The village lies east of Mount Waldo, the site of major granite quarries. Mount Waldo granite is found at nearby Fort Knox and in buildings in Boston, New York and Washington, D.C. The town dock off of Main Street offers an impressive view of Penobscot Narrows Bridge & Observatory).
