DescriptionThis beach resort was named for the popular 19th-century Karlsbad spa in Bohemia. The city's European background can be seen in the Old World architecture of some of its buildings. Information about the scenic beach walk and self-guiding tours of Carlsbad Village is available from the visitors center. Guided hikes along a nature trail also are available. The Carlsbad Village hosts a farmers market, 2930 Roosevelt St., every Wednesday afternoon from 3-7, mid-March through November 1; 3-6, rest of year. Just off I-5 and US 101 is Batiquitos Lagoon, a wetlands area surrounding a freshwater lake that opens into the ocean. The Carlsbad Village Faire is held in early May and early November and features nearly 1,000 arts and crafts and antique vendors as well as entertainment and international food vendors on Grand Avenue.
