Settled in 1740, Cherry Valley was an important stagecoach stop on the Cherry Valley Turnpike, now US 20. A large stone monument in the village cemetery commemorates the victims of the Massacre of 1778, when 700 Native Americans and Tories killed or captured most of the residents.
