DescriptionBoth Protestant and Roman Catholic missionaries traveled this part of the state in the mid-19th century; a plaque at the First Congregational Church, downtown at Park and Webster streets, commemorates the first Protestant sermon given in the Pacific Northwest. An original hand-hewn log cabin standing at 309 Third St. is the site of a Native American agency established in Chewelah in 1873.
