DescriptionFounded in 1817, Clarksville offers the first opportunity north of St. Louis to view the Mississippi River up close at River Front Park, which runs along the riverbank at the junction of Howard and First streets. The park offers walking paths with scenic views; steps lead right down to the river. A chairlift up to a hilltop viewpoint is under construction. Lock and Dam #24 is at the north end of the park and features interpretive panels about the lock, dam and river.
From mid-December through late February, bald eagles winter in Clarksville. The event is officially celebrated annually on a late January weekend with Eagle Days. There are exhibits and activities like live eagle programs at Lock and Dam #24 and the Apple Shed Theater.
The town also boasts a number of artisans who can be seen working their creativity in downtown shops.
