DescriptionA life-size statue of Abraham Lincoln created by Belgian artist Van den Bergen marks the site on Clinton's city square where Lincoln delivered his renowned aphorism “You can fool all the people part of the time and part of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” While campaigning against Stephen A. Douglas for a seat in the U.S. Senate in 1858, Lincoln gave his quotable speech in response to an accusation by Douglas.
Clinton Lake, with more than 130 miles of shoreline, is stocked with a wide variety of game fish and is an important stopover point for migrating waterfowl. Weldon Springs State Park contains a 29-acre lake and a winter sled run. Veteran's Point, within the park, honors the memory of all U.S. veterans.
