Ten miles east on US 160 is the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park. Hovenweep National Monument is about 48 miles west. Take a birding field trip to Mesa Verde National Park or the Ute Tribal Park in early May during the Ute Mountain Mesa Verde Birding Festival, which also features lectures and an art show.
