DescriptionCoudersport is a manufacturing community on the banks of the Allegheny River. It was founded by John Keating, an Irish mercenary who managed the Ceres Land Co., which owned most of the county. Keating gave 50 acres to each of the first 50 settlers and named the community after Jean Samuel Couderc, a Dutch banker. A monument to David Zeisberger, a Moravian missionary who camped nearby in October 1767, is in the county courthouse square at Second and Main streets.
