DescriptionCoulee City is the former junction of railroad and stagecoach lines that ran along the Columbia River. According to Guy Waring, a 19th-century pioneer and author, trains and coaches were deliberately scheduled not to connect with each other, forcing passengers to spend the night in town. The little town is the only place between Soap Lake and Coulee Dam where east-west travelers can cross the Grand Coulee. Dramatic rock cliffs flank the coulee north and south of town.
