DescriptionIn the early 1900s a local farm girl sold a hand-tufted bedspread for $2.50 and unknowingly revived a century-old craft that was to become big business in Dalton. Although the bedspreads now are rare, the craft is perpetuated in the production of tufted floor coverings. Currently, Dalton supplies more than half of the world's tufted carpets.
Another craft is preserved 10 miles northeast of Dalton, off I-75 exit 341 on SR 2, at the restored Prater's Mill. Dating from the 1800s, the mill still grinds cornmeal during the annual Prater's Mill Country Fair held at the site each October; phone (706) 694-6455.
