DescriptionDayton was founded in 1871 along the bank of the Touchet (TOO-she) River. Flour milling was the first industry, and the town prospered as a trading center for surrounding farms, ranches and timberlands. First, Second and Third streets south of Main Street are lined with historic homes built in architectural styles ranging from Gothic, Italianate and Queen Anne to Craftsman.
