DescriptionEl Reno was established in June 1889 when the Rock Island Railroad picked a site on the south bank of the North Canadian River for a depot. Angry citizens of nearby Reno City decided they did not want to be left out of any future railroad riches. They packed their belongings and loaded their houses, stores and even a hotel onto log rollers, forded the river and resettled in the new town of El Reno.
The Heritage Express Trolley transports riders Wednesday through Sunday from Heritage Park through the downtown area. A scenic portion of US 81 runs 12 miles south from El Reno through the Canadian River Valley to Minco.
