DescriptionOnce the site of a gristmill, the natural waterfalls for which Elk Falls was named are at the bottom of the Elk River Gorge. Pedestrians can view the waterfalls from the 1893 Iron Truss Bridge. The Prudence Crandall Historical Marker, off SR 160, is dedicated to the famed educator, emancipator and human rights activist who lived in Elk Falls from 1874 until her death in 1890; her final resting place is at Elk Falls Cemetery. Elk Falls is the site of the annual Elk Falls Open House Outhouse Tour where visitors vote for their favorite decorated outhouses on the Fri.-Sat. before Thanksgiving.
