Description
A small trading center for surrounding farms, Flora has wide streets and large old houses. One of the town's oldest houses, built in the early 1850s on a county road just east of the railroad depot, was the birthplace of Belle Kearney, a prominent activist in the Prohibition and women's suffrage movements. In 1924 she became the first woman to be elected to the Mississippi State Senate.
