DescriptionHigh bluffs surround the natural harbor of Frankfort, one of northwest Michigan's busiest ports. Beach lovers are drawn to the area's sandy shores, and the city's natural harbor, yacht facilities and launching ramp accommodate boating and fishing. North of the city off SR 22 is the Point Betsie Lighthouse, near the entrance to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
Some think that Jesuit explorer and missionary Pere Jacques Marquette died at the mouth of Betsie Bay in 1675; a marker and wooden cross signify the supposed site. It is generally believed that he died near Ludington, about 50 miles south.
