DescriptionTucked in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the North Carolina state line, Galax is noted for its pristine beauty. The town is named for the leaf of the galax, a plant indigenous to the area. The terrain is popular with mountain bikers, horseback riders and hikers, while placid rivers and streams draw anglers, canoeists and kayakers.
Every Friday evening at 8, a weekly radio show featuring regional old-time and bluegrass bands is broadcast live on WBRF (98.1 FM) from the historical Rex Theater at 113 E. Grayson St. The shows are open to the public; tickets cost $5 apiece.
