Glenrock's hunting, fishing, hiking and mountain-climbing opportunities make it a hot spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Originally called Deer Creek Station, Glenrock was a stop along the Oregon Trail and the Pony Express National Historic Trail. The more than 350,000 settlers traversing the area from 1841 to 1869 would break at a certain rock situated in a nearby glen—hence the name that later was adopted by the town. The large, domelike Rock in the Glen, located just west of town off I-25, is inscribed with the names of some of the settlers.
